The Power Of RAW

Now that I have a mini photo studio, I thought of giving the camera (a Canon Powershot SX1) a fair chance. I took some pictures and decided to compare the power of RAW against normal JPEG pictures. And woah, RAW really can make a LOT of difference. I did the following:

1. Take a picture of a figure (in this case Miku… I really should have dusted it off XD; ) in the wrong setting (I chose daylight) in raw.
2. Convert the RAW image to JPEG without changing the settings.
3. Convert the untouched JPEG in Photoshop to make it look right.
4. Convert the RAW image to JPEG with the settings tweaked to make it look right.

Below you see steps 2, 3 and 4. See for yourself why RAW is such a nice feature to have for photography.

Mini Photo Studio

Okay, so I had a lot of trouble making some nice pictures indoors, but I got the solution today: a portable mini studio (if you fold it, it turns into a bag)!

I will do some reviews of the summer uniform Lucky Star figma the coming days and I hope you’ll see some improvement in quality of the photo’s!

Let’s Build: Golgo 13’s di:stage

Alright, continuing from yesterday, I will now build the di:stage that is included with figma #42 Golgo 13!

Review: figma #42 Golgo 13

Time for the first review of my newest batch: Golgo 13! For those who don’t know who this guy actually is, here’s a brief summary from Wikipedia.

Golgo 13 (ゴルゴ13, Gorugo Sātīn?) is a manga series written and illustrated by Takao Saito, published in Shogakukan’s Big Comic magazine since January 1969.[1] In 1976, the manga won the 21st Shogakukan Manga Award for general manga.[2] The series follows the titular character, a professional assassin for hire.

The manga is one of the longest running adult manga in Japan and has sold over 200 million copies in various formats, including compilation books. It has been adapted into two live-action feature films, two animated films, a television series and five video games.

New Loot – Nov 18

Heh, I got this box the 18th, but only opened it the 19th. What is with this lack of sudden unboxing, you may ask? Sick time yay -_-;

Well this is the biggest box I got from Archonia so far! Let’s see what’s inside!

Four new figma! Duke Togo, a sniper from the old series called “Golgo 13” and Konata Izumi, Tsukasa Hiiragi and Miyuki Takara in summer uniforms from “Lucky Star”! They didn’t have Kagamin yet 😦 I also got the new Haruhi manga, which I forgot to order before n_n;

Duke’s box is BIG! I’m not sure there are more of this size, but it’s as wide as the one Drossel, Witch Yuki and most of the Nanoha StrikerS girls come in, except is thicker. This is because it also comes with a basic set of di:stage, meaning I own six of those now!

Well I feel awfully tired, so I’ll unpack them all tomorrow, posting pictures of them in action. I may build Duke’s di:stage as well, it should look like this when it’s done, pretty cool~

Four valid reasons for being less active

Well that and school. It was the end of the semester and had to turn in all the assignments at once, so pretty busy two weeks. That being said, I now have some more free time, expect a new figure review soon~!

Speaking of those games. I made myself (male singer/guitarist) and my character Apple (female singer) in Band Hero (for as far as that’s possible with the editor)

Here’s how Apple looks like normally:

Limited Edition Kagaboo Manga to be released with figure

Doujin manga-ka Eretto (most famous of her Churuya-chan work) also made a doujin of Lucky Star in which Kagami is a pig: Boo Boo Kagaboo! While most of the comics are free to read on the internet, a real manga will be released on March 10, 2010. The limited edition will be bundled with a 40mm Kagaboo! In comparison, a figma is roughly 3x the size, so it’s the perfect size to place alongside them!
